Here is 11 minutes of our drive through the Lac Saint-Jean area of Quebec.
Billeting in Hébertville
We have spent the first night with our billets in Hébertville. Wonderful hosts, and it's great to experience the culture of this area in Quebec! Here is the view from the front porch of the home where we are staying.
Join the Journey
Take part in the last part of our journey to Hébertville.
Val-Jalbert
We visited a town that has been abandoned since the 1920s. It was a town that was created to support a pulp paper factory.
In the background you can see the waterfall that ran the mill.
The houses are still the same as when the people left in 1927.
We took the cable car to the top of the waterfalls to see the view.
Meant To Be
As we leave Montreal I have time to tell you about one thing that happened not related to our singing on our first night in Montreal. Our kids were excited to be at a hotel where there was a pool. We were back early enough in the evening that a few of them went down to go for a swim. There were a few other guests in the pool as well.
After a while our kids started to get out of the pool to get ready to come back upstairs. There was a little girl about 4 yrs old walking along the edge of the pool, she slipped and fell in. She could not swim and went under the water. Her mother jumped in after her; but was panicking. Teagan, in our choir, is a registered lifeguard. She saw what was going on before anyone even noticed. She jumped in and went under, bring the little girl back up. She got the child back out of the pool and made sure she was ok. It seems Teagan was meant to be there that night!
Montreal 375
It's Montreal's 375th birthday! We happened to be here for the fireworks. A bunch of the kids went out to watch.
Exploring Montreal
We split up into chaperone groups to explore Old Montreal. Our group started down by the waterfront.
Lunch!
And of course we can't visit Montreal without having … Montreal Smoked Meat!
Tourists
We are now tourists for the rest of the day. A quick stop to get some Montreal bagels for the kids to try. (Ahhh, they're still warm!)
Incredible Performance!
The acoustics in the Crypt Chapel are absolutely wonderful. The choir loved singing this performance!
Crypt Chapel at St. Joseph's
Our performance was in the crypt chapel.
St. Joseph's Dome
The dome of St. Joseph's Oratory is the second largest in the world, next to St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican.
St. Joseph's Oratory
St. Joseph's is the largest church in Canada! They have seating for 10,000 people!
Private Performance
Two women from Texas were in the audience for our performance. They saw from our program that we also sing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow". We did a little private performance for them in our warm-up room before we left.
The Basilica
Here is the Basilica itself, with people leaving after our performance.
